A little about me and my story
Denise Gee, MA, LMFT
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
I’m Denise Gee, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), a therapist who listens first and talks second. If you’re tired of quick fixes, platitudes, or being told to “just move on” or “it's not a big deal,” you’ve found a different kind of space.
I bring steady curiosity, practical skills, and a calm presence to the work of healing so you can begin to feel more like yourself again.
"You matter. Your voice matters. You don't have to do this alone."
A Different Kind of Welcome
Therapy with me is straightforward and connected. We’ll name what’s happening, slow down the parts that feel overwhelming, and build tools that actually fit your life. I work with people who carry heavy burdens, confusing emotions, or the long shadows of past experiences and I do that work without judgment. I aim to help you feel safer in your body, clearer in your choices, and more connected to the people who matter.
A little more about me…
I’ve wanted to be a therapist since I was a teenager. Over the years, that calling became focused on trauma work, helping people move through painful experiences and the beliefs that shape how they see themselves and move through the world. My clinical training includes a BA in Psychology from William Jessup University and an MA in Counseling from Brandman University. I’m trained in Brainspotting and Imago Relationship Therapy, with additional training in first responder care, perinatal mental health, and clinical trauma treatment. I’m also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and a Certified First Responder Treatment Provider. The impact of this work, watching people reclaim safety, connection, and a clearer sense of themselves, is what keeps me gives me purpose in this field.
I am a vetted, culturally competent first responder therapist. My perspective is shaped by both training and lived experience. As a police wife for 11 years, I’ve seen how the job’s demands ripple through relationships and family life. That experience informs how I work with first responders and their spouses: with cultural understanding, practical strategies, and a respect for the silence that often surrounds this work. I also support adults healing from childhood trauma, parents navigating birth trauma and postpartum challenges, couples seeking deeper connection, and teen girls learning emotional skills.
I value authenticity, empathy, connection, and empowerment.
Sessions are collaborative: we’ll explore what’s happening, identify patterns that keep you stuck, and practice skills that help you feel steadier in day‑to‑day life. I use Brainspotting to access deeper material when words aren’t enough, and I pair that with relational and skills‑based work so you leave sessions with both insight and tools that support real, lasting change. You won’t find platitudes here. Only clear, compassionate care that honors your pace.
I am a proud first-generation Romanian. I grew up in the Sacramento area and feel deeply rooted in this community. I have a unique experience growing up between two cultures that have shaped who I am. At home, you’ll usually find me in the garden, tending to my chickens, drinking coffee, or settling in with a book. Just a few small rituals that help me slow down and stay curious. Those ordinary moments shape how I show up in sessions: patient, attentive, and gently present.
